BOARD OF DIRECTORS GENERAL INFORMATION

The Board of Directors has the responsibility for setting directions, establishing policy, and overseeing the long-term plans of Empowerment Resource Center.

Term of Office:
Directors shall serve for a term of three years or until a successor is installed. They shall be eligible for reelection. Term limits are set by the BOD.

Duties of the Directors: 

  • Directors will attend (physically or virtually) all Board meetings. There are four scheduled board meetings annually. 
  • Directors must serve on at least one major committee while on the Board of Directors and must be willing to serve on other ad hoc task forces when requested by the chair.
  • There is a minimum time commitment of ten hours per quarter each year. This includes Board and committee meetings.
  • Directors will be involved in various ERC functions as speakers, presiders, and/or representatives of the Board of Directors.
  • Directors will be responsible for providing input on material for presentations at Board meetings, as designated by the chair.
  • Directors will make recommendations for new board members and particularly be on the lookout for new talent. 

Qualifications:
ERC requires that a nominee for director must —
  • Possess a desire to serve a three year term;
  • Have a genuine passion for the mission and vision of ERC;
  • Have professional and leadership experience in, including but not limited to one or more of the following:
  • Volunteer community services;
  • Consumer advisory board;
  • Leadership role in the consumer advocacy organization; or
  • Leadership role as a community stakeholder at a local, state, or national level.

Selection Process:
The Membership Committee will present a slate of candidates to the board.
The selection process is:
  • Is guided by evidence of leadership, vision, and collaboration; commitment to community service and at-risk populations; and a wide range of experiences;
  • Is governed by the ERC bylaws, which require balance on the Board across levels (medical, financial, and legal professions, academia, community leaders, stakeholders, consumers).
  • Is guided by ERC's commitment to parity, inclusion, representation, and equity
