SEE OUR JOURNEY FROM THE BEGINNING UNTIL NOW

Empowerment Resource Center was established in 2003 and incorporated in 2006 under the legal name of HIV/AIDS Empowerment Resource Center for Young Women, Incorporated. We are a non-profit organization, with a 501(C)(3) status. Since its inception, the ERC target population has been underserved and high-risk individuals, with a priority focus on African-American females. Although our passion is to serve individuals who can be characterized as vulnerable, hard to reach, and susceptible to health disparities, our client base has become gradually more diverse.

2003 › ESTABLISHMENT
2003

The Beginning Of The Road

ERC came to fruition when its founder, Jacqueline Brown, was disheartened by the fact that African American women newly-infected with HIV were becoming increasingly younger at a progressively alarming rate. This, along with the tacit approval and reticence of community leaders to accept the status quo, spawned the formation. ERC began by providing HIV counseling, testing and referral services and HIV educational seminars.

2007

First Annual Take Charge. Get Tested. ™ Health Fair Event

Hundreds of Atlantans participated in the 2008 Take Charge. Get Tested. ™ Health Fair event’s food, fun, and festivities. Community partners and volunteers were on hand to provide confidential HIV testing. Two hundred and sixty-four (264) participants received a free rapid HIV test and harm reduction counseling.

2010

ERC Increased Its Repertoire of Services!

ERC enhanced its EmpowerLink™: Linkage to Care Program by increasing out Patient Advocacy Services and providing direct linkage to medical care and treatment for people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA). ERC was awarded the Elton John Foundation Grant to provide increased access for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Syphilis screening and treatment services in the Atlanta metro area. These services were provided at the ERC Comprehensive Intervention Clinic (CIC).

2012

ERC Moved!!

ERC celebrated the opening of their new office and clinic in the Woodruff Volunteer Center at 100 Edgewood Avenue, NE Suite 1020.

2014

ERC Expanded Its Clinical Facility!

ERC expanded its clinical facilities by increasing its Comprehensive Intervention Clinic and the ERC on the M.O.V.E. (Mobile Outreach Vehicle). The clinic facility has a state of the art laboratory, two fully equipped exam rooms, a triage room, two interactive waiting rooms and a counseling room. ERC on the M.O.V.E. are fully equipped vehicles that have two fully-equipped exam rooms, a counseling room and a restroom to increase access to HIV and STI screening, family planning services and referral services to the community.

2016

ERC Opened Its Behavioral Health & Outreach Services!

ERC opened its doors to clients at its’ newest facility, Behavioral Health & Outreach Services (BHOS), located at 100 Edgewood Avenue, NE Suite 775 in the United Way Woodruff Volunteer Center.
