Atlanta (GA) -- The Midtown Atlanta Rotary Club honored Empowerment Resource Center’s Dr. Paul Donnan as the 2017 Barbara B. Rose Volunteer of the Year. This is the eleventh year that the local civic organization has honored a community volunteer with a ceremony and donations to the volunteer’s nominating organization.

When Empowerment Resource Center (ERC) was tasked by the Midtown Atlanta Rotary to nominate a volunteer who has made a significant impact on our organization, it was immediately clear who had tirelessly given their time, energy and resources to assist ERC’s mission and vision. That individual was Dr. Paul Donnan. He has an extensive volunteer background with ERC and the community at large, as a volunteer coach for the Georgia Tech Rugby Team; volunteer Medical Director for the Center for Black Women’s Wellness safety clinic; Board Member for the Atlanta Dogwood Festival; precept for first-year medical students from Emory University; and precept for Nurse Practitioner students from Mercer University and Georgia State University.

"His willingness to listen, learn and go above and beyond for his clients is what makes him a wonderful physician, volunteer and asset to the ERC team." - Sherrie Powell

"Dr. Donnan has been a great help and influence for me.  Not only is he my primary care physician, I consider him a friend," said Sherrie Powell, Executive Assistant of Empowerment Resource Center. "I would not have been able to be a part of Empowerment Resource Center, had he not suggested that I apply for a volunteer position.  I am extremely thankful ever day that I followed his advice."

Since 2010, Dr. Donnan has been a committed volunteer to ERC, initially serving as volunteer physician, then humbly accepting the position as Medical Director for the ERC Comprehensive Intervention Clinic and finally volunteering as Treasurer for the ERC Board of Directors. Under his exceptional leadership, the ERC Comprehensive Intervention Clinic has blossomed from a small community clinic providing HIV screening and prevention services to offering family planning counseling and services, mental health therapy and psychiatric medication management. With the support of Dr. Donnan, ERC has consistently ensured the provision of free and low-cost clinical services to the economically and medically underserved. His passion for helping others manifests itself in countless ways for ERC and the communities that ERC is privileged to serve.

We are extremely proud of Dr. Donnan and his accomplishments.  Congratulations, Dr. Donnan, there is no one more deserving of this award than you!
