Who We Are

Mission

Empowerment Resource Center (ERC) exists to reduce health disparities by providing accessible, culturally responsive care for individuals and families affected by HIV, STIs, mental health challenges, and chronic conditions.

Vision

A community where every person—regardless of income, identity, or insurance status—can access the care, respect, and resources they need to live a full, healthy life.

Values

  • Dignity: We see the whole person, not just a diagnosis.
  • Equity: We prioritize communities most impacted by health disparities.
  • Compassion: We lead with empathy, listening, and non-judgment.
  • Excellence: We deliver high-quality, evidence-based care.
  • Collaboration: We partner with clients, families, and community organizations.
Our Story

ERC began with a simple but urgent question: What would it look like if the people most affected by HIV and health inequities designed the care they deserve? Since then, we’ve grown from a single vision into a comprehensive hub for testing, treatment, mental wellness, and mobile outreach across Atlanta.

2003

The Beginning Of The Road
ERC was founded when our founder, Jacqueline Brown, saw too many African American women and families facing HIV without adequate support. What started as HIV counseling and education quickly grew into comprehensive testing, referral, and risk-reduction services.

2010s

Growing Our Clinical & Behavioral Health Services
As community needs expanded, so did ERC. We added primary and STI care, behavioral health services, and case management—building a continuum of care that treats both physical and emotional health.

2014

ERC On The M.O.V.E.
With the launch of our Mobile Outreach Vehicle Experience, ERC began meeting clients where they are—neighborhoods, college campuses, community events—providing on-the-spot testing, education, and linkage to care.

2015–2019

Broader Health & Wellness Initiatives
Introduced expanded wellness programming and community health initiatives. Increased visibility through local events, education campaigns, and strategic partnerships. Continued strengthening client-centered services and outreach.

2020

COVID-19 Response
Adapted services during the COVID-19 pandemic to continue supporting the community. Assisted with community education, outreach, testing awareness, and resource navigation. Continued providing critical health services during a public health crisis.

2021

Expanded Healthcare Access
Continued expanding prevention, wellness, and healthcare navigation services. Increased focus on mental health awareness and whole-person care. Strengthened digital outreach and community engagement efforts.

2023

20 Years of Community Impact
Celebrated 20 years of service and community empowerment. Continued expanding programs focused on prevention, education, advocacy, and healthcare access. Increased community partnerships and public engagement initiatives.

2024

Integrated Health & Wellness Growth
Expanded healthcare-related services and community wellness initiatives. Enhanced outreach strategies and client engagement efforts. Continued building organizational visibility and community trust.

2025

Community Impact & Mental Health Awareness

2026

"When I lost my job, I lost my insurance—and I almost lost my medication. ERC helped me get back into care, refill my prescriptions, and connect with a therapist. I didn't just feel like a patient. I felt seen."

At ERC, health care is a human right. We honor the lived experiences of Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, immigrant, and low-income communities who bear the greatest burden of HIV, STIs, and untreated mental health conditions.

Providing non-judgmental, trauma-informed care.

Using inclusive language and honoring all identities.

Removing financial and logistical barriers to care whenever possible.

Listening to our clients and evolving with their needs.
